Updated version for symbian:Faster twitter and E52, E72 support
Hi guys,
We’ve just released a new version for you, S60 (Nokia) users.
The new version provides an even better and much faster Twitter experience; solves connectivity issues including fixes to some issues fringsters have been reporting in certain connectivity states & includes a few other bug fixes, all making for an even better fringing experience!
Users of Nokia’s latest E52, 5630 and E72 devices – we didn’t forget you either. We followed through with our promise to spread the fringing freedom to you, as well, all reported issues have been addressed and resolved.
The new version (3.40.28/29) is now available on our download page.
As always, your comments & suggestions are welcome.

thanks for the new version. However I just found v3.40.28 (08/20/2009) either on download site via PC and via my Symbian handset.
So should it be 3.40.29 or 3.40.28?

There are 4 platforms here (9.1 , 9.2 , 9.3 and 9.4) so the version number is 3.40.29 or 3.40.28 depends on the platform.
In other words: It’s the same version.

Although I love fring for its Friends Merger feature, there are a few hiccups which make using fring simply too irritating.
For one, why aren’t we allowed to customize the volume for the fringtone? I want a faint pop noise for my messages. Its either the full volume or no volume.
Second, Please take a look at Nimbuzz’s chat window UI. The sender & receiver of messages is so clearly highlighted. In Fring, its all like a text file in notepad. One line after another. Please redesign the chat window & make things easier to read.
Do you guys plan to support Facebook chat?

Is there a changelog somewhere?
I’d like to have support for multiple custom SIP providers. I have several SIP accounts and would like to consolidate them all into one device.
Secondly, one of my SIP providers has a policy of a 20 character password. The Fring client only supports a maximum of 18 character passwords. It would be nice if that maximum was raised.

I’ve upgraded my Nokia E51 from 3.40.19 (which had the twitter 2.0) to this new version (3.40.28 for me), and the only Twitter add-on is this “Twitter (Chat only)”…

The faster twitter is the Twitter 2.0 add-on.
Try to restart fring and you should see it.

It looks like that there is a new feature in Fring for the Nokia N97 that it switch on the flashing light program button to indicate a missed call.
That’s nice but it is also flashing every time after you did a call (outgoing) to somebody.
You have to delete the call history to stop the light flashing.

Hi,
I bought the Nokia E52 lat Friday (Sept.11), but I can’t make nor receive SIP calls.
Skype and fring users’ calls and chats are fine.
The sip provider is online, as I can connect to it using the same wifi network (SIP connection over HSPA doesn’t work as well). I see the SIP with the green “V” (check), meaning I’m online (I guess)
The same fring account installed on a Nokia N80 works as intended for SIP calls (using same wifi connection as the E52 and laptop). The Fring on N80 and the one on E52 have never been online simultaneously. I checked and both phones have the latest fring version.
Please tell me by email how can I help you debug this.

hi! i’ve tried installing fring 3.40.29 on my E52. however, it just hangs while testing the connection and restarts. am i missing something? do i need to install another software or plugin prior to installing fring?

Hi,
I am using fring 3.40.29 on my Nokia E52 and everything works fine. I am using Skype Yahoo Facebook Msn and also one SIP service. It works pretty good excluding Facebook as I dont understand the use of that yet. I dont know whats your problem but it has worked great for me without any problem.

3.40.29 works beautifully on my e71 for Skype. Thanks to the developers for all their hard work. If you could somehow make DTMF work I would PAY for the upgrade. I think most of we Skype dependant users would gladly pitch in to get that functionality. It’s the one key to the puzzle that’s currently missing.
Please consider moving DTMF up the priority list for subsequent releases.

Nothing new in this version. Seems we wait months and not much improves. When are we going to be able to clearly read and change status? When is the UI going to improve – just three contact icons on my E71 screen are visible and having to scroll through every single offline contact to get back to phone contacts.

i am using this version on Nokia N79. the problem i am facing is in the VOIP, Skype and GTalk Voice chats are giving a lot of distortions. earlier they were working better, but now its worse.. i expect another update asap.. i am using it on wifi and the network is of 386kbps ie 38kbps of data download speed when i use Web explorer download.. VOIP on my laptop works absolutely fine….

I installed version 3.40.29 in my Nokia E72. Skype chat is fine but I’m having problems hearing the other line when I make a Skype call. I can not do video call as well. My sister – who installed fring on her Nokia 5800 – can make Skype voice calls and video calls. Why is that so? Do I still have to do something to make Skype voice and video calls work on my E72? Please help.

Hell yeah! Video Call capabilities for fring on E72..
For now nimbuzz works better but I bet when you get the video calls it would be otherwise..
Had problems with entering my long passwords too..It gives you a beep when it gets too long.:)
Hoping for fixes.

I;m using fring for some time now, and on my latest phone, e71, it;s making some problems, in the main screen i have a search bar in the bottom of the dysplay, and the bockground of that search bar it’s always showing the window that was recentrly open, and i have installed a lot if versions of fring. when it will be availible videi call on e52 ?
