fring 3.24 for Windows Mobile is out
Auto-roams (Wi-Fi<>3G), reaches you from anywhere online, talks your language and lots more!
Windows Mobile fringsters wait with(out) patience no more… we are glad to announce that several core fring functions are now up and running for your fab WM phones & PDAs.
 - Auto-roam between 3G & Wi-Fi! Powered by our super-sleek connection manager, fring now automatically recognizes ‘friendly’ Wi-Fi network (one that you’ve previously logged onto) and auto-connects you. When you leave the zone, fring automatically connects your next call over 3G. We don’t care who operates the network, or what type it is so you get the best possible call quality and cost savings even if you don’t realize you’re in a Wi-Fi zone!
- WLAN support! For those of you who prefer to manually prioritize your access points including setting Wi-Fi / 3G network preferences, our connection manager puts the choice and control back in your hands.
- We now speak your language! fring is now available in 8 languages including English, French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Italian and Russian. fring automatically installs the default language on your handset unless you manually request a language from More –> settings.
- The fringME! widget lets your online buddies communicate with you directly from internet pages! This widget lets you paste this cool new fringME! HTML code onto your own web pages, blogs and pretty much anywhere you have an internet presence of your own – enabling community members or casual visitors to instantly see whether you’re online, offline or busy in call and also chat with you directly from their computer. Download fringME! here.

- Improved sound quality & chat – including, upon popular request, new message blinking instead of interrupting a current session. So to auto-roam in and out of 3G & Wi-Fi zones, control your own network choices, talk your local tongue, stay in touch with your web buddies and enjoy improved sound & chat, just download the new Microsoft signed version here… and don’t forget to let us know how you go! (or even better simply point your mobile web browser to fring site and download fring latest WM version directly to your device)

This version still does not work. When you start the application, you simply get a screen that says “Fring is loading”… and it never loads, starts or anything.
I think Fring is a great concept… I hope they can make it work like they want it to work… it would be a great addition to my phone. BTW, I use a T-Mobile Shadow running WM6.

When is Fring finally going to work on the HTC Touch, or for that matter any HTC device? The IM clients work fine, but the VOIP functions do not work at all. Any eta on this fix?

I did a regular installation and got the (in)famous message that the “installation has been unsuccessful”.
After that, whatever I did, I could not get either the new version or the old version of the software installed again. I tried manually deleting all files, deleting registry entries that refer to fring, but I always get the “unsuccessful” message.
Now I don’t have fring, and I do need it badly….
Any ideas?

I think Fring should able to bring support for Wi-Fi phones like Linksys, Dlink , etc for those who cannot afford high range GSM phones with Wi-Fi…………..what do u say freinds on this ? Am i correct on suggesting this idea .

Is the Windows Mobile speaker issue resolved in this edition? On my phone, it will only use the speaker phone and not the regular phone speaker…

One more for the usage of the speaker, only hands free is available, and it becomes useless if there is someone else in the room (all can hear the other party), or if there is any noise around, you cannot actually put phone normally to your ear and talk.
Hope for the best

Thanks for a great app! I’m so glad that I can place Skype calls via Wi-Fi rather than relying on sending SMS or placing a call.
On my version 3.24.3.157, I would like to be able to set a different sound for the messages I receive since I find that the current sound can be a bit of a shocker, especially when I’m not expecting it.
Also, a question that I asked in the forums but didn’t get a reply to with regards to Skype out calls: When placing a Skype Out call, even if I have unlimited minutes via the North American unlimited calling plan, I am assuming that the call placed via Fring will be charged as a regular SkypeOut call from my Skype account credit? Just wanted to confirm this.

@ May C:
There is no option to change the sounds on the WM version yet.
Yes, you will be charged by Skype, also you will be charged for the data that you are using with fring.
Unless you have an unlimited data plan or a free WiFi.

Thanks for the reply and for confirming that my Skype credits will be deducted for Skype Out calls regardless of the unlimited plan I have.
I am really relying on Wi-Fi for the call since I don’t have an unlimited data plan (us Canadians are gouged needlessly).
I do hope that newer versions will enable us to chang ethe sound since I always jump a bit when the message sound plays unexpectedly for me. Perhaps, make it something softer like even a soft beep would be preferred. Thanks!

@ May C:
That is not exactly what I meant, you will be charged what you need to be charged according to your Skype plan.
It should be the same behavior just as using your Skype on your computer.

I also have the same problems with the HTC touch. I head the other person but they can not hear me. I am using the HTC touch from verizon. Only handsfree during a call gives no privacy why isnt the regular phone speaker used? All the clients work perfect for chatting.
Besides that… Great App! thanks!

Asked this question in the forums as well. I dont have a file transfer feature on my blackjack running wm6. The version history page on the fring website says it is supported.
Any ideas?

I installed the new fring on HTC Touch Diamond. It works in principle over 3G/HSDPA. But it is very dodgy with WiFi. It can sometimes detect my hope network, but cant connect with it. In then end it falls back on the 3G network. Thats rather sad as I dont want to have data charges while I have a WiFi network available. The phone is very easily able to connect and use the WiFi.

Hi. I use fring on a Samsung i900 Omnia, and since it has just one speaker, it does work normally, but has no speakerphone function, so I have the opposite problem.
I use it just for SIP calls, on 3G, and sometimes when I make a call it just hangs up the call without connecting.
But 3G/WiFi roaming is still useful, and phone book integration.
I did not find any WM SIP client with phone book integration yet (free or cracked), if you know any please send me some info to multilink@index.hu . Thanks in advance.

I have an HP iPAQ 910c and when using SIP it routes to my hand-free speaker-phone. This is a deal breaker for me. Hmm… I just uninstalled Frign and now I am wondering if it would work with my wired headphones… probably not, but worth a try.
Please fix this feature! Thanks!

I am using two Voip services on Nokia e51, Fring & Vopium and my mobile expenses are significantly reduced after suing these VoIP services. I am always on the go and it’s hard to stand roaming charges or altering sims but now I am free man and enjoying VoIP services.

works perfectly on nokia e71. fring routes the audio to the regular phone speaker by default. and if i click loudspeaker, that works too.
but i dont know why this does not work on windows mobile phones.

I’m guessing that you have another VoIP app on your phone and they conflict.
Try to install fring again, it should solve the problem.
