fring for your new Sony Ericsson P1i
The rumours are true… fring works on your new Sony Ericsson P1i!

There are 2 ways to see for yourself:
1. Go to www.fring.com, select Sony Ericsson P1i and we’ll send you an SMS so you can start fringing in less than a minute!
2. Check some pictures and screenshots.
fring on the P1i works like on all other Nokia and Windows Mobile supported devices…. So you can see who’s available before talking and chatting with your fring, Skype, MSN, ICQ, twitter and GoogleTalk buddies, and also save money calling regular phone lines using SkypeOut or hundreds of SIP providers.
fring on!!!

[...] Actually, I’m not quite sure why Fring announced that their VoIP application works with the recently released Sony Ericsson P1i — I thought when they released Fring for the UIQ 3 platform that P1i is also included. Guess, Sony Ericsson additionally tweaked P1i to make it work much better than the P990i. [...]

i have tried to dowbload fring to my p1i several times but it stops at 99 percent.. i got it to work once by downloading an old sound driver to the phone first then downloading fring. now i need to down load the sound driver again because i reset my phone but i cannot find it. this info and link should be easily available for p1i users at fring.

@ asb:
The message you got means that you can not make a voip call over GPRS. This was not “banned” by Sony.
We’re working to solve it.

Hi, great stuff, I’ve installed fring and recommended it to my friends, and also promoted it to my blog (“free mobile calls” – there’s an unlimited GPRS plan with one of the provider here).
My wife is the exception, she’s got P990i, and fring won’t work on GPRS.
Please let us know when fring is able to work on P990i with GPRS connection.
Many thanks!

I have a P1i and trying to use a GPRS connection(fring works for my friend on a N80 using the same GPRS connection with the same provider).
I get the VOIP not supported on GPRS connection.
Please do enable VOIP on GPRS connection as it will work in this scenario.

Kudos to the developers for creating such amazing software! it is one truely amazingly useful piece of mobile software I have ever come across… thanx for making communication so easy and affordable.
It works really well with wifi on my Sony Ericsson P1i and my only grief is that VOIP does not work with GPRS (in P1i). So when I am outside my wifi network coverage I am only left with IMs which is quite frustrating. Another thing which I’d very much like to see in Fring is support for multiple sip accounts, and an option to change status for IMs. I hope to see the new features added very soon, and hopefully VOIP over GPRS support (for P1i) will soon be fixed.

great software! is it possible to have two sip accounts (or more) in fring? one for free incoming sip calls and the other for outgoing calls? Also, I have a grandcentral number which I forwarded to my Gizmo number. The forwarding works but grandcentral requires me to press a number key to accept or reject the call which is not possible in frin as of yet because the number keys don’t work once a call is accepted. It is like pressing an extension number after a call is picked up by a pbx system. Can anyone help?

I got the same “The firware on this device does not support VOIP call†with my brand new O2 supplied P1i. First I downloaded Sony Ericsson Update Suite (SEUS) ready, then I downloaded XS++ from http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=575
I’d not done anything important on the P1i yet, so didn’t bother backing up, I just went on and used XS++ to change the CDA to generic world 1 (GW1), then started SEUS and updated the firmware. Bingo, when I rebooted all the apps get reinstalled (including Fring) and now VOIP calls work. So I did the same thing on my W950i too. That was exactly the same process, but needed a backup/restore.

Using Firmware R6D23 sis files aredirectly installed on the phone. I’venot tried through PC Suite. Which update do you have? Sometimesthese updated firmware are released to ristrict some installations. I’ve come to realise that the best solution could be to ‘master reset’ your phone.
On different note, I have not been assisted as why my Fring does work in GPRS and dpes not connect through WLAN as it says connectionnot established. Calls from skype come through GPRS but cannot πick calls as the answering button is deactivated.

Hi, I have gone through some of the discussion on P1i here and I have experienced several of them before.
1. For connections not established in Fring. Try setting your GPRS priority as ‘1′ under connection -> internet accounts -> groups (internet)-> priority
2. Fring on P1i does not require additional audio or semc sis. Just simply download and install the fring installation file and it will work.
3. I do sometimes have the message ‘This phone does not support VOIP calls’ on my P1i. But the funny thing is, whenever i try to log in and out MSN messenger together with skype, it works and I can voip call via GPRS again. It seems some fiddling with this log in and out helps. However, I would like to see a more permanent solutions on this.

Unfortunately, the whole ERICSSON system moved to VoIP, letting my landline with a weird structure that started by 1 and was considered as mobile phone by VoIPBuster :__(
The result? .22€/min and a too expensive call for everyday use.
Fring came ann enlightened the path with an app allowing me to call mummy whenever I wanted to ;D
The best part of the deal?? Apart from flawlessly integration in the Symbian environment provided by P1i, I can now phone mummy – AND ANYONE ELSE!!! – with no additional cost – landlines in Spain are free to contact while one needs to pay that l’il amount when calling to Sweden.
Thanks. I’ll spread the word as loud as my mouth allows me to!!!
