Here is a list of common problems that I have experienced (or read about) with the newly released fring on the appstore. Please read them before reposting a question in this forum.

1) Registration bug - You cannot register a new account since you cannot use a "." after the @.

You can also just skip the email part of registration.

2) Fring connects but nothing is responsive except the Fring test call

Reason: When fring says you are logged in (green icon at the top), you are not really logged into all the service addons YET. It can take 5+ minutes for everything to log in and update, especially Skype. That is why you might not be able to make calls (CALL TERMINATED) or message people right after you load fring up. It is not known if this is a network problem or a bug.

Solution: Wait 5+ minutes, your buddy list should update and your calls should work.

3) You automatically get disconnected when trying to make a call (CALL TERMINATED)

Solution: One reason could be the same as problem #2. But for all calls (at least with Skype, Gizmo, and VoipBuster) you must enter the FULL number (001-800-343-3423 or +1-800-343-3423), add 001, +1, or 1 (our the appropriate country code) to the front of the number before dialing.

Possible Problem #2: You are using an old 'Skype Unlimited' Plan:

Solution: Get (or borrow) the $3/month unlimited and test it with that plan.

4) You can't make calls while on 3G\edge

Answer: Due to ATT + appstore regulations, there will be no VOIP over 3g\edge

5) You have a hard time signing into Skype (bad user\pass or long login times)

Solution: It's not known if its a bug, but signing into Skype ALWAYS takes around 3-5 minutes. If you are getting bad user\pass errors when trying to add Skype, make sure you sign out of all Skype sessions on the PC, wait 5 minutes, and try again.

6) Unbearable voice delay lag in any voip session

Problem: This was a problem with the 1.1.4 iPhone version of Fring and it seems it is apparent in the latest release also. There is no known solution, it may be a server problem between your phone, fring or skype.

7) Can you run Fring in the background?

Answer: No, appstore applications cannot run in the background once exited.

Solution: Jailbreak your phone and use Backgrounder to allow Fring to be run as a background process.

8) Other features not implemented yet (and may or may not be implemented in the future due to ease and apple restrictions)

- Number keypad - you cannot go through touch tone menus
- Speaker phone
- Mute
- Hold
- Conference calls
- Contact deletion and configuration
- Bluetooth Headsets

9) Voice calling with the iPod Touch

Answer: "Voice calls are only available using the new iPod touch (the one with the volume control on the side). Currently we do not support 3rd party headphones." -fring userguide.

10) If you get a cellular call during a fring VOIP call, it will disconnect your current VOIP call

Problem: Currently, there is no way to block or notify you of an incoming cellular call while using fring.

11) There is a Red Bubble beside the Fringe Icon at the Home Screen

Solution: This is actually a bug with an older version of Backgrounder. Go into Cydia and update to the latest version, open up fring, close fring. The red notification badge should be gone now. In the future, when Apple releases push notifications, expect the red badge to return (and work properly!).

That's all for now, but rest assured the fring team is hard at work to perfect this app and in the long run, it will save you money and frustration.

I have an ipod touch 1st gen, with software 2.2, and fring works perfect with an iVoiceIII mic.

Hi Downloaded latest fring version but can not log in to either Skype or google talk..very annoying. Tried waiting the 5 minutes but to no avail.

I have big problem with Skype.Sometimes,i get skype IM messages after 3-4 hours.Very annoying !!! I will have to switch back to Skype for Iphone

I really can not understand this situation. I'm not even located at the same continent with AT&T but limited to their regulation.

Fring knows the country and the service provider of all the users, why aren't you limiting this to only AT&T users?

It is not only AT&T. In France, Orange does not allow for VoIP over 3G. True for skype as well !

I have 3G Unrestrictor installed on my 3G iphone (3.1.x) I can make "fring test call" successfully but when I make SIP call (Voipcheap) the other phone and my iphone ring BUT we can not hear each other. I am using WiFi.
What could be the problem and how to solve?
