Default Confirming The $10 Phillips Mic @ Target Works

I bought the Phillips mic from Target and have been using it (with Fring) for about a month and it does indeed work.

I am waiting for the $29 Apple earbud/mic combo to ship because the Phillips mic attaches to the end of the standard earbuds the mic is so far down (you have to clip it close to your neck). The combo also has volume control built in which is nice.

I also have a Belkin TuneCast FM transmitter

that I use to listen to my ipod music in the car (wirelessly). But you can also plug the mic into the Belkin and wal-lah you have a hands free car kit to use w/Fring, Skype or regular iPhone calls for about $30.

Default One more thing

Griffin Technology just released a new Recorder App that works with the iPod Touch called iTalk (get it now while it's FREE in the App Store). By itself is pretty cool but rumors have it that firmware 2.2 will allow audio in capabilities for the iPod Touch which could include a new iTalk mic from Griffin that clips on the base and lets you use the built in speaker to hear (anyone see the lines of iPhone and iPod Touch blurring even more)

Smile Griffin Smart Talk

I have been using the Griffin Smart Talk and it works great...... Got impatient waiting for the Apple Mic.... Works really well with the Sony in-ear headset as it has a really short cord

We've also been testing the Griffin smart talk adapter. It's a cheap and simple solution for all you iPod Touch owners. (2nd generation of course...)

Default ipod itouch phillips mic

Confirmed...................it works........ amazing!
The $10 Phillips mic adaptor from target and my 32 gig new itouch combine to allow phone calls on Skype, Justvoip, Voipstunt, Aol IM, text messaging etc. as advertised earlier in this thread.
Word must be getting out because only a few Target have the part in stock. Call first. The Target stock reference for this unit is 057000120.

I bought this one:

Just got them today and they work pretty well, if you turn the connector when it's in it will crackle, but if you leave it alone it works just fine.

I too have the Philips iPhone mic adapter and it worked on my iPod Touch. I was able to talk to numerous people on Skype. After I upgraded the firmware to 2.2, fring unfortunately stopped working all together.

Got the Phillips headphone connector (model # shh1610) from Target for $10 too, and wish I had seen it before wasting $40 on altec/lansings from the apple store.
The beauty of it is that you can use it with any headphone, earbud or whatever that you like with a 3.5mm plug, so when you find a set that gives you the sound (listening) quality, comfort, or whatever, you like, you can use them with the Phillips to make calls or record.
Oh, the Phillips also has better sound quality that the altecs.
